What do you have in your desk? As designers, developers, programmers, etc we tend to project our creativity and energy in our surroundings, after all, we spend most of our time in our desks working for hours, so having an environment that is pleasant to our eyes and comfortable for us to spend many hours is key.

There are so many set ups we could come up with for our workplace but this time we wanted to focus just on our desk set-ups. No matter how messy our desk might be after a hard day of work, it will still be equipped with the energy and tools for a brand new day of work tomorrow.

In this article we bring to you a collection of some sweet setups that might get you inspired to improve your own desk with bits and pieces of these examples so the set up that you come up with is a reflection your personality and makes your life at work easier and pleasant.

Web Developer Justin Griswold shares with us his awesome desk setup, just take a look at his desk!

Wall PC

Notice the Wall PC he displays on the left of the picture.  Justin explains he made it from an old Sony Vaio laptop he had laying around. He decided to dismantle the laptop and put the inside of it into a new enclosure. The result, a flat panel that cleanly hangs on the wall.

In the picture we also see a lot of other components.  We have Two 20″ Benq Widescreen (bottom left and right) 1680×1050, One 22″ Benq Widescreen (bottom) 1680×1050, One 22″ Acer Widescreen (top) 1680×1050 w/
Sanus - Full-Motion Wall Mount for up to 27″, One 13″ custom built self-enclosed Wall-PC (far left) 1400×900 Controlled by a virtual WiFi touchpad on iPhone (Air Mouse app). Gaming uses wireless Xbox 360 controllers.  Pretty powerful if you ask me.

Moving on to another beautiful setup, we find the desk of Unix Programmer Mitch Haile:

This is a nice setup, specially if you have the space for it.  Here you can see a combination of an “L” desk against a “U” desk. Mitch explains physical separation helps him to be organized. The ‘L’ desk is for task processing and brainstorming and The ‘U’ desk is where work happens. In the “U” desk we find  The MacBook Pro + the middle 30″ monitor (on a KVM), 6 monitor Mac Pro for coding, debugging, and customer support sessions over WebEx. Very well organized!

Next we have the desk of Web-Developer/Analyst Denis Klein:

Dennis explains he has expanded from one desk to two Expedits from IKEA to the left and the right to have more space to put the ThinkPad and the 4th screen (19″ 90° rotated) and a APC RS800VA “Lifesaver” - a 500 Watts UPS (little beige box)

Our next workstation listed is the desk of Software Engineer Brian DeHamer:

Sometimes all you need to get the job done rather than a big office, is to be organized. Brian needed a new office so he went out and bought himself an 8×15 cube and built a very nice office with everything he needed including his Star Wars Figures - we know we love those!

Making use of shelves will help you stay organize and keep things in one place no matter how small your workspace might be it’s important to keep it in order.

Next we have the Home Recording Studio of “Copperline”

Again, here we can see that the environment is very inviting to let your creativity flow. Make sure to check out the rest of his studio.

Last but not least we have:

This is a nice simple setup with the right components to work in a peaceful environment (note the details in the wall) In the picture we find an Hp Mini 2140 MBP 15 unibody 2.53 ghz 500 gb,  Apple 24″ led Cinema Display, Apple BT keyboard, Logitech VX Nano, and a Blackberry Bold.

As you can see there are many ways you can setup your desk. The most important thing to keep in mind is that it should be a comfortable place for YOU, so make sure to invest in a nice chair and equipment that will help you have a pleasant time at work.

I hope you enjoyed taking this tour with me. Remember, by implementing new components to your workspace you will end up with a lot of cables so it’s recommendable to start now by arranging your cords in a cleanly manner. Consider arranging them nicely under your desk or in the walls.

Now it’s your turn, is there a setup that you think I should include in the list? send the link to your pictures as a comment and I’ll add them to the post!
